CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION.
The appointment of Mr I). Robertson, 1.5.0., as Chief Civil Service Commissioner, was not unexpected, Possibly tiiero is no person in tho Civil Service
more fitted for the position than ho. At the same time, there is a feeling
in the country that a man of commercial training and high standing might havo boon preferable'. So far as the other Commissioners are concerned, opinions will be very much divided. Mr Triggs appears to havo some qualifications for the position, but as for Mr A. D. Thompson, S.M., one hardly knows. It is right that tho Justice Department should bo represented on the "Board, but there are not a few who will entertain tho opinion that, there are Magistrates with stronger claims to position than. i Mr Thomoson.
