Baker said that the loans from the India reservo were temporary, and were j made when the reserve-was unusually high, and could not be lent in the usn- [ al way. Tho Banks' profit in tke transaction was lose than J per cent. I (In tho House of Commons soveral j members objected «.to loans being j made to financial institutions from the India Office's reserve fund.)
