BATTALION ORDERS, NO. 16

(By Major H. E. Skey, Commanding '2nd Battalion 9tli Wellington LOast Coast Regiment.)

The following officers passed tho examination "A" (Appendix lA\ General Regulations) on the dates named : Second Ijeut. 11. H. Bis,s March 23rd, 1912; Second Lieut. D. L. Robertson, September 29th, 1912; Second Lieut. E. H. Morton, September 29th, 1912; Swond Lieut. K. H. E. Morgan, September 29th, 1912. 'Hie names of officers desirous of presenting themselves at the examination to be held on February . 18th, 1913, arid the following days, are to be forwarded to the Adjutant- by tho end of the month.

The undermentioned lieutenants have been promoted to be captains : Gavin William Wardrop, Charles John Holland.

Captain J. Osburne-Lilly has been appointed a member of the committee to manage the affairs of tho Pahiatua Drill Hall, It is notified for the information of all concerned that the outfit grant will not be paid to officers appointed on probation subsequent to October lstj 1912. Acontract for the supply- of uniforms will shortly be arranged, when free issues of outfit will be made. While on probation, only isuch articles of outfit will' be issued as are necessary to enable probationery officers to carry out their duties, the remainder of the outfit being issued when the prescribed examination has been passed and commissions granted.

One hundred rounds per mann will be issued for Territorials, of- which seven rounds will be at the disposal of the O.C. Company for training bad shots. A pamphlet containing full instructions for carrying out tho course has been issued to O.C. Companies, and C.C. Companies must understand that no man is to fire hall until he lias passed the standard test. As much musketry-as possible must be done before the annual camp.

Attention is drawn to the fact that an ■officers* club has Keen formed; at Masterton. The Officer Commanding desires that as niany officers as pos- i tsible Lectures- will'- htrgivcn once a month, and it is hoped that large attendances will be the rule, and not the exception. During the absence of Captain Braddell, on leave, the duties of Adjutant will be carried, out by Second Lieut. It. G. Purdy, N.Z. Staff Corps. O.C. Companies will forward not later than the 24th inst. the number (roughly) of competitors fro mtheir Companies who will be competing at the tournament.
