THE ADVANCES BOARD.
The Public Accounts Committee, which recently investigated the methods employed by the Government Advances Board, recommended, among other tilings, the re-organisa-tion of the Board. The inference is that one or more of the members of. that Board are not possessed of the necessary for the position which they hold. On this point wo are not disposed to express an opinion. We think, however, that the Government would be well-advis-ed to stay its hand, and allow the mutter to ht> dealt with by the Civil Service Board. Any step that the Government might take at the present juncture would be wrongly construed. The Board may be quite a different institution when it feels that it is not altogether under the thumb of Minister*.
