CORRESPONDENCE.
ITo The Editor.] Sit:,—There has been an, organiser for -Dr. Barnardo's ' Homes going through New Zealand, and he has come, as you say, to (Masterton, and got. a committee of ladies to divide the town into districts to be canvassed. One would think that there was no object out here in the direction of the rescue of children, and that we were such a well-organised community that we can afford to send money away to the wealthiest country in the world, to assist them in their rescue homes. These ladies, I hope, will turn their endeavours toward an organisation in their midst, which surely they cannot know about and which finds it almost impossible to .meet the calls upon it. I refer to the Social Service Fund of the Anglican Church, of which Archdeacon Harper is chairman. From this fund St. Mary's Home for Girls in Karori is helped, also a home for girls under 12 years of age. A rescue home for boys at the Hutt, and a home for children in Palmerston. These get grants from this fund, but are mainly supported by direct subscriptions, which are never large enough to carry out the work as it ought to be done. I think all other denominations will agree with me that money for social work is much needed in Xew Zealand. find is very hard to get. I have referred in this letter only to such work as .is in the same direction as Dr Barnardo's Homes, and hope that some may be influenced to give tlicm a helping hand. —I am, etc., HENRY A. NEVTNS.
