AMATEUR ATHLETICS
EVENING EVENTS. The Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club hold the second rim of the season last evening, when two events were got off, one being a maiden race over 220 yards, and the other a handicap race over 880 yards. The former resulted .in a very close finish, Tressider beating Bowman by a narrow margin. .Tii the half-mile G. Hood lasted long enough to win from Bradbury, who wns conceding the former 50 yards. , There was a large attendance of interested spectators, who seemed to thoroughly enjoy the sport provided by the club. There is little doubt that these evening events will provo very popular during the coming seaeon.
The results of the two events were as follow*: — MAIDEN RACE—22O YARDS. L. Tressider 1 A. iC. Bowman 2 S. Hoar 3 A good finish, Tressider spurting well caught and beat Bowman by half a yard. SBO YARDS HANDICAP. G. Ilood, 60yds 1 •T. Bradbury, 10yds 2 R. Messenger, 50yds 3 Bradbury put in a great finishing run, but failed to reach Hood, who won by two yards.
