EVENING EVENTS,
! The first meeting of the season, under the auspices of the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Association, was hold on the Park Oval last evening. There was a good muster of runners, while there was also a good attendance of interested spectators. Two events were run over 100 yds and 440 yds. In the final of the first event the finish was very close, Hoar defeating Bowman by inches. In the. 440 yds J. Bradbury scored a popular victory, winning easily from a back mark in good time. A handsome trophy will be presented to the winner of each event. Tho results of the events were as follow : 100 YARDS HANDICAP. First Heat —A. Bowman 1, It. Messenger 2, J. Bradbury 3. Second Heat—W. Hoar 1, W. Land 2, Tressider 3. Final—W. Hoar 1, A. Bowman '2, R. Messenger 3. Won by six inches. Time, 10 l-ssec. 440 YAUDS HANDICAP. J. Bradbury 1, W. Hoar 2, M. Iggulden 3. Won by threo yards. Time, r>s sec.
