DR. BARNARDO'S HOMES.
A CANVASS OF MASTERTON. Mr H. W» Lwj, organising score-' tary in New Zealand for Dr Barn- j ardo's Homes, has been during the last two years visiting tho various towns in the Dpirunion with the object of forming committees to undertake a house-to-house collection once i a year in aid of the homes, aaid his efforts have met with a large amount of success. He recently visited Masterton, and after spending about a week here in connection with his work, formed a committee of about twenty-five ladies, of whom Mrs H. B. Dyer was appointed secretary. This committee met yesterday afternoon, and decided that they would enter upon their work of collection immediately, and each member was allotted certain streets. Tho collectors have been provided with printed leaflets with an envelope for donations attached. "Dr Barnardo's Homes" are household words, but few realise the fastness of the institution, and the great national work it is doing. Nearly 70,000 boys and girls have been rescued since its inoeption, and at tho present time nearly 9000 children are being sheltered. The cost for food alone for this great family amounts to the large sum of £240 a day. Persons who would liko to help the destitute children by subscribing to these "homes," and who have not received an envelope, are requested to send donations to the secretary, Mrs FT. T5. T)yor, 71. Cole Street, Masterton, who will acknowledge them and forward them to their destination.
