M.y d'-'ar friends, — J3y the time this reache,-, you, we shall he well on our journey back to New Zealand. We sail from London on October I lth by the s. ,s. Osterly, and we hope fo reach Masterton .lithe end of November. Though we are enjoying our visit to tho old country very much indeed, still wo shall be glad to get back u the'parish end the New Zealand sunshine. The weather has. been exceptionally bad. We hear of floods th.it you have been having in Masterton, but one. does not expect that sort of thing in midsummer, and i L is , s ad to see the fields for miles under water,, with the tops of t the haystacks peeping out and the corn looking like mere seaweed. It is all very serious for the English farmers. Last month we spent at Brideport where I was helping Canon K.rrer, It reminded us both of the Mission, working together again, and he was full of questions with regard to the welfare of S. Matthews parish. While I was there, 1. went over to Taunton to see your former vicar. Mr Eatev He is Vicar cf Angeisieigh, about live miles from Taunton. The Church is very beautiful and old. By the door stands an old Norman font, and on tho wall behind hangs a list of Vicars going righf hack to the fourteenth. century. Mr Earee was delighted to hear of his old parish, and asked me to remember him to you all. We hoped also to sec Bishop and Mrs Waliis, who are now living at Wiltshire. bu L unfortunately they they were away from home, i'lt: 1 hope to be ahle to see thorn before we leave. ,1 cannot tell you bow anxioiN .! -i\v\ to see how' the Church is progressing, j I have been able to arrange for a * very fmo stained window- for the Eas;_ " end, which is the kind gift of },\r< Meredith. The subject is tho Sermon I on the Mount, and tho window should \ ho finished in time to place in tho i Church before the building is finish ; ed. May I remind you of our custom for all who have been confirmed at St. Matthew's to meet at the Hoi;, | Communion on Advent Sunday. That' day (December Ist) will bo cur first. Sunday with you, and I hope that very many of yt u will be present at the Sacrament. Yours faithfully. IT. WATSON. I
