The marriage of Mr Eric Ernest, Stuckey, of Wairarapa, to Miss Dorothy Bell, only daughter of Mr and Mrs 0. Langley Bell, of Nelson, took place at JJt. Barnabas's Church, Stoke-, on Tuesday afternoon last.
Mr Arthur H. Vile yesterday tendered his resignation as a member of the Wellington Education Board. 'He finds it impossible to "devote that attention to the business of 'the Board that its importance deserves. Mr Vile has been for about ten years a member of the Board, having beea elected in the first instance against such formidable opponents as Dr. Chappie, Mr O. H. Izard and Mr J. T. M. Homsby. It is understood that Mr Richard Brown Chairman of the Masterton District High School Committee, will be a candidate for on the Board:' Mrs, Clarke, of Mauriceville, na& received the news of tho.death of "her. father, Mr.;;,Tanies ; 'Nightingale, : which took place at Greymouth bn ; Tuesday morning. The deceased gentleman was born at Epsom, Surrey, England, in 1836, and lamded at Lyttelton 48 years ago. Shortly after arriving he accompanied the first gold escort to the West Coast district over the Southern Alps, where h© ha* practically resided ever since, and he remembered well the Burgess-Kelly days. For many years Mr Nightingale was overseer on public worka undertaken by the local bodies. MrNightingale was predeceased by bis wife 12 years, and leaves a grownup family of five to mourn their los».
