Mr Philip Snowden (Labour member for Blackburn) moved an amendment that votes should granted women on the basis of the local government register. Mr J. E. Redmond said the matter should bo left to the Irish Parliament. The Right Hon A. J. Balfour and Mr Ramsay Mac Donald (Labour! supported the amendment." The Prime Minister (Mr H. H. Asquith) replied that there was no precedent for conferring tho franchise upon women in connection with granting of self-government to the Dominions. '■ He re-echoed what Mr Redmond ha'd said. The amendment was defeated \y 314 votes to 141. -
