PONGAROA.

A church parade of Friendly Societies, sports, and football clubs, and Scouts, headed by the Pongaroa Brass Band of fifteen instrumentalists, took place in ideal summer weather last Sunday afternoon. After the procession from the Foresters' Hall to the Presbyterian Church was finished, a special service was conducted in the church, there being about one hundred persons present. Mr J<%s. Rattray preached an appropriate and interesting sermon ba-sed on the fourteenth verso of the second chapter of the first epistle of John: "I have written into you young men because ye are strong." The whole -function was most successful and being tho first of "the kind held in the district created a great deal of Interest, bringing together a very largo number of settlers with their wives and children.
