A FATAL FIGHT. (Received November o, 9.55 a.m.) MELBOURNE, November 5. In ft boxing contest between "Bob'' McCarthy, of Victoria, and Georg© I ay lor, of YV estern Australia, the former was knocked down in the fifteenth round. Ho did not regain consciousness, and died in ,a few hours.
CARPENTIER RETIRES. (Received November 5, 9 a.m.) PARIS, November 4. Carpentior (the French boxer) has decided to fight no longer as a middleweight. Papko takes tho title. (Last mo nth Papke defeated Carpentier in . the soventoouth round of a contest fought in Paris. Later it w.:>s announced that Carpentier had refused to fight for tho middle-weight championship.)
