A FATAL FIRE.
THIRTY LIVES ENDANGERED. SEVERAL DEATHS. I (Received November 4, 8.5 a.m.) ) LONDON, November 3. J John Barker and Co.'s drapery and I general stores in South Kensington were partially burned at an early \im~ tliis morning. The lives of thirty girls were imperilled, and there were some thrilling ■ escapes. Three are dead, one being dashed to the pavement from the fourth story. Eleven have been taken to hospitals. HEARTRENDING SCENES. EIGHT GIRLS MISSING, INTENSE HEAT MAKES RESCUE IMPOSSIBLE. (Received November 4, 8.40 a.m.) LONDON, November 3. There were some heartrending scenes at Barker's fire. The heat was so intense that further attempts are rescue were made impossible. So"me of the girls leaped from the windows to the pavement, and were seriously injured. One girl who was rescued saw four of her companions perish. Eight of tho girls ore still missing, and their case is considered hopeless. Four of. those taken to the hospital have succumbed to their injuries. The building was gutted.
