HON. JAS. MILLAR.
PRESENTED WITH ILLUMINATED ADDRESS. (By Telegraph—Tress Association.) CHRrSTCHURCH, Last Night. A number of members of the"Canterbury branch of the Executive of tho Locomotivo Mens' Union assembled to-night for tho purpose of'presenting the Hon. J. A. Millar with an illuminated address. Mr Millar, in responding,, claimed that his sympathies wore always with labour. He resented the actions of an individual member of the Government who, wider the pretence of voiding the opinion of Labour, took a prominent part in objecting to himself occupying the position of leader of the Liberal Party. He assured his hearers that ho had no feeling in 'the, matter, because that member did not represent labour, but only claimed to do so. Mr Millar stated he had assisted in the trades'union movement: since- the year ISSo," and' it' certainly c«t him to the quick to hear a member of Parliament say that he never represented labour, "My, work as a labour representative," continued Mr Millar, "caM be seen on the .Statute Book since the year 18!)!), which is -sufficient reply 'to those wlv> think otherwise of me."
