KAIPARORO
During the early part of last week! several frosta were recorded. Tho weather is now mild, but strong northwesterly winds are prevalent. Considerable difficulty is being experienced in this district in getting men for scrub cutting. Nine shillings per day is being offered for reliable men, but even these wages, do., not prove tempting enough. Sunday school work, which was abandoned some months ago, owing to a difficulty in obtaining teachers, is to be again revived, under the superintendence of the Rev Walko, of Eketahuna. It is to be hoped that his efforts on behs.lf of the children throughout the.district will meet with the success they deserve. On Thursday night a euchre tournalrient in aid of school funds was held in' tho hall. About fifty persons were present, and a very enjoyable time was spent. The early part of the evening was devoted to progressive euchre. Prizes, awarded by tho school committee, were won by Miss E. Falkner and Mr T. Edwards." After a light supper had been served the floor was cleared for dancing, which' was kept up until about 1 a.m. The school committee is to be congratulated ou the success which has attended these* ga/fcherings. They arc looked'forward to with pleasure by young and •Id, and they have been the means of considerably increasing the' school funds. Mrs Harold Renal] is spending a holiday in Wellington. She is accompanied by her little daughter, who has just recovered from a trying illness. Mrs P.illant a.nd' Mrs Falkner are visiting friends in Pnlmerston.
