CHRISTCHUROH, Last Night. Save for a slight breeze, which .raised some dust in the city and on the road to Biccarton, the weather rwas beautifully fine for the opening day of the Spring Racing Carnival of 1912, and with ample sholter provided at tho course the wind caused no discomfort to the very large crowd of Spectators. The course was in splendid order, and some high-class racing resulted. Results were as follow : Spring Hurdle Handicap, of 300 *;»vs; two miles—l J. O'Meara's Fashion Plate, 10.6 (W. As they passed the stand Soldiers' Chorus had taken second placo from Odessa, while Allegory was running tit the head of tho others. So they ran to the mile post, i and along tho back where .Haskayne was followed by Obligant, Odessa, and Soldiers' Chorus, with Undecided at the head of tho others. A furlong further on Haskayne was still in charge, but nearing the five furlong post Masterpiece, who had been running alongside of Allegory, improved his position, and took up fifth place as the top of the turn was reached. At this stage Haskayno was still in front, with Undecided and Soldiers' Chorus at the head of the others. As they rounded the turn into the straight, Masterpiece put in his ran on the outside, and half way down hwA taken charge. Midnight Sim then put in his claim, and finishing well got up in time to beat Masterpiece by half a head. Sinapis, who oame from a long way back, was a. leigth. and a half away third, with Soldiers' Chorus a length further tack fourth. Then came Haskayno, Odessa. Unfortunately showers fell during the morning and rain fell steadily at noon, and continued until the Derby was run. The new stand j accommodated a largo crowd, who were squeezed out of the other stands. Several of the State Governors arrived bofore the first race. Results : Maiden Plate—Moi 1, Omega 2, Waggle 3. Moi, after, the first few strides, took the lead from Omega, and passed him. Moi won by four lengths. Half a length between second and third. Time, lmin 425 sec. Maribyrnong Plate—Beragoon 1. Kildalton 2, Scotch Malt 3: Won by two lengths. Time, lmin 2sec. Hotham Handicap—Lord Alwyne, 7.11, 1; Mangar, 8.5, 2; Golden Point, 8.5, 3. Won by half a length. Time, 2min 36|sec. Lady Medallist and Duke Foote led into the straight. The latter was warmly challenged by Endorus, but holding tho imported horse safe, Duke Foote won by half a length, tho third horse three lengths away. Time, 2min 28 sec. Cobnrg Welter—Tyrell 1, Dceside 2, Tadanga 3. Deoside made all the running, but was beaten at the'finisb by two lengths.
