(BY "Also Started.") FIXTURES. November 2, 4, 6, 9.—C.J.C. November 6, D.—Auckland R.C With the Wellington Racing Club's Spring meeting concluded, the attention of the sporting public is now centred on the big Ricearton earniva. which opens on Saturday. The form shown at Wellington would not be the best guides to the form likely to be seen tit Ohristclmrch, as the going was of"such a nature that many horses could .not perform in it, while'many candidates that will strip ;.
Riecarton were scratched. J The outstanding feature of the I meeting was the excellent form shown by horses of the- Otaki stable presided over by F. Higgott, no less than live firsts being secured by patrons, of the stable. The good showing of ttndecided in the final event must put backers of the Me.nschikoff gelding on good terms with themselves. The big bay was- not sighted till the last fcW yards, when lie put in his claim, and everything in the raca seemed to standing still. • W. Young should cer"tainly have a comfortable rido in the J big two mile event on Saturday:
The WVHinston Racing Club were most fortunate in securing such excellent totalisator returns on Monday. The total figures showed a considerable falling off on last year, I)' after such a day as was experienced on Saturday, the Club must be accounted Jucky to make such a recovery.
Many good judges consider that Hatch's handling of Brown Trout in the initial event on Monday, was a rare exhibition of horsemanship.
Many Mastorton punters benefited by the. win of Sir Knox in the Pearce Handicap. No doubt the bi<r price tempted them. The Sir Lnddo colt looked to have no chance; four furlongs from home, but finishing well lie smothered, everything, and ran in an easy winner.
Princp Laddo, tho good looking brother to Polymorphous, is said to ho •oven .hotter than his-'stablomate Porbnella. Tho former was finishing very fast on .Saturday after having, anything but tho host of,runs. In Perj onella and Prince Laddo Higgntt has ■i>)s';o...jrqod. youngsters, .which' should he hoard of this season. Old Bobrikoff looted sompu-' l, i A rough at Trontham, and the going seemed all against him. The race should do him Rood, and if ho stands up, he may trouble some of them at Riccarton. It is understood that Imagination's special mission at Riccarton will he the Oaks,' ■• Two-year-old form has so far boon very uncertain, and nothing seems to !■ stand- out as very much above the irest. OF course we have not ha-d an 'opportunity of comparing the North , Island two-year-olds with those of tho South, excepting Mowbray, the winner of the Welloslcy Stakes. According to reports from Chmtohurch there are some verv smart ones in work at Riccarton. The Welcome Stakes promises to be exceptionally interesting. . Tho Karamu stable, for the first time in many years, failed to score- a win at Trentham. The cerise colours seem right out of luck. Blue Lake is well fancied for the Stewards Handicap, and being such a brilliant beginner the Royal Fusilier -filly should have a great chance. Peroneal is another candidate that has come into tho market since winning the Shorts on Saturday. Master Laddo improved on ' his form at Opaki by dead-heating with Cornelian in the Waverley Oup. His supporters would not benefit very materially as record odds were laid on his ability to win. Leapuki is in good form at present. He was unlucky to bump up against a champion like Undecided. Southern sportsmen will not hear of Allegory's defeat in the New Zealand Cup. Autumnus is likely to bo a strong favourite . for the Canterbury Derby.
He lias, been hitting; out in good, stylo of late. Masterpiece, in the same stable, and winner of last year's Blue Ribbon, has come into favour for the dip. Final payments for the. New Zealand Oup, Stewards' Handicap, Welcome. Stakes, Derby Stakes, Oaks Stnkos, and acceptances for the first day's minor ©vents close to-night. On Saturday next nominations close, for tho Marlborough Racing; Club's Spring mooting. *
