The Government ; advised that.. aS grant of £4370 had been made for the?, erection of an infant department in' brick, and for preparation of grounds, etc.
The Fields Instructor .of the Agricul r tural Department., offered assistance in carrying out experiments at High Schools where no skilled instructor was available.
; A request by Major-General Godley. that Inspector Charters bo permitted to retain the command of the Second Battalion of Territorials, and to attend the annual camp, was dealt with in comm'ittee.
A donation of £IOO was received from the Masterton Trust Lands, Trust towards completing the furnishing of the Assembly Hall at the District High School.—The Trustees, were thanked, and it was intimated that the grant would cany the usual subsidv.
i Tho Mauriceville West Committee recommended that appointments of teachers be made on a classification basis.
A petition was received from Feathers ton South, praying that building additions bo proceeded with this year.
An application from Miki Miki for a teacher's residence was held over for a report, \ '
Vacancies at the Miki Miki, Dyer, Te Whiti, Tane, Mako Mako and oth<er schools were dealt with in committee.
[ The following grants were made to Wairarapa schools:—Kaitara, windows, papering, etc.. £10; Kaiwaiwai, fencing, etc., £3 .Jus; Cross 1 Creek, grant for improvements, £3; Mangaone. tanks and stands. £8 15s; Claroville. water meter and repairs, £G 5s ; Korora, half cost of ground improvements. £7 10s; Puketoi, erecting break wind and shifting door, £8 ss; Parkvale, pump. £3 15s; Pirinoa. water service, £8 10s. Library subsidies were authorised.as follows: Foatberston South, 10s; Featherston. Us 3d. Tt was decided that tenders be invited for the lease for "•}- years of school reserves at Makui-i and Mangaone. A complaint from Pahiatua regarding a.hedge encroaching on a street was referred to the headmaster. Tt was resolved to endeavour to make an arrangement with the Wairarapa Hospital Board, similar to that , made with the Wellington Board, for tho fumigation of schools in which infectious disease may occur.
Tt was decided that the contractor for the new school at Matahiwi be allowed full time in which to complete i the building. Consideration of an offer of a residence at Maureieville West was deferred, pending the receipt of further information. The matter of ;1 defective chimney at Waterfalls was left in the bands of the foreman to deal with. I Tenders were dealt with for works [ at Rakariki, Dreyer's Rock, Papawai, / Longbusb, Pouatahi and Matarawa.
