DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOLS.
QUESTION OF DISESTABLIBHj MENT. Owing to a report that the Minister for Education had suggested that he had do authority to disestablish district .high schools, Mr H. C. Robinson wrote tlirough Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P., asking the Minister what his actual opinion was upon the matter. The following correspondence, which finally clears this matter up, was handed in to the Agricultural High School Establishment- Com mitten at its meeting on Saturday. Wellington, October 11, 1912. H. 0. Robinson, Esq., Solicitor, Masterton. Dear Sir,—Enclosed please find memo from Minister of Education in reply to your query in regard to the Disestablishment of a District High School. The word "further" is evidently a typing error, as I have received no previous letter.—Yur sobediently, G. R. SYKES. Wellington, October 7, 1912. Sir, —Tn further reference to your letter of Ist inrvt., covering a communication from Mr H. 0. Robins-on. of Masterton, I have the honour to , s ay that section 101 of tho Education Act, 1908, empowers the Minister of Education to disestablish a district high school with, a view to establishing a high school under section -94; fres-b legislation is not required for this.— I have the honour to lie, Sir, your obedient- servant J.
