WAIRARAPA P. AND A. SOCIETY.

ANN UAL SHOW.

PEOPLES' DAY,

The concluding day of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society's airnuaJ aho,v; was opened in most unfavourable cu.r« cunstances, rain falling throughout the no riling and afternoon. Tlio ground underfoot was a, veritable quagmire, and although the officials had placed a coating of straw in the worst places, the conditions were anything but pleasant. The afternoon was slightly improved and the attendance was, under the circunisir.ncos, fairly satisfactory, hiding, f anytli ng, an improreniout on Jast year's numbers. [ The various conpetitions fille-rl remarkably \v*.ll, and the class of horses w.i; ' vrj well maintai ie<J. Tho hacks were an especially good lot, champion honours being, gained bv Mr H. HassalPs "Micky Erie." The dairy classes were an exceptionally fine lot, and would compare fr>vmirably with the best in the D mirion. Mr J. Billington, of Ma* tort-on, was very successful in this section, and secured a number of first prizes. The draught horses, although not a

very large entry, included some fine animals. The geldings and mares were speciall ygood. There was not a large number.of entries in young draughts, but several showed great promise. Mrs J. D. Orniond scored chief honours in this section, gaining first and champion for the fine colt Ardnacraig." .She also -secured several firsts in young draughts. The champion -mare was shown by Mr Arthur Tocker, of Featherston, with' "Lady Banchor." In the harness draughts the Wellington City Corporation and Mr A. Tockftt*, Feathersto divided honours. ; ",.14%e entries'were received v: «.%, produce classes, some very fin* ' hibits being made. The same m:,x > said regarding the schools section, hj: which the various classes rV-rc: reached a high standard of quality An interesting seefchn. was that. ?r '^°^ Ed e d to dogs. An excellent lot sheep And cattle . were enterof, while , the, remaining classes also Sr.* | eluded some very fine animals. | An interesting feature o£ .the sh. *was;tlre pigeon' com petition, 600 birds were liberated, 400 beir,,-r from Mastertoii lofts «'md, 200 fro-r Thomdon. Wellincrton. The grand parade took place duri.r y a temporary stoppage? of the mi", and the long string of entries wer* seen under . .conditions;: . The ring was entirely filled aitcl presented a very fine sight, the. general excellence of the class of stock.exhibited being clearly indicated. v The jumping competitions, attracted large entries, and the leaping was on the whole good considering that the ground wa3 not in particularly, good condition for jumping. ,The v. champion jump was won by Mr W. Strang's "Wainui." which also won the hunters' jumping competition. There was one . rather nasty spill * in the. Champion .Tumping Competition, in which 0. Bicknell was rather badly hurt. The unfortunate rider was taken into the'secretary's.'office and attended to. Later he was slightly improved and was taken to his homo by motor.

Taking the event as a whole the officials are to be congratulated on the. excellent manner in which they carried everything through under ver;v trying circumstances, A special word of praise is due to the secretary, Mr H. S. Moss, who worked with untiring energy to ensure a successful gathering. It may he safely remarked that if the Wairarapa Society had the good fortune as regards weather thai attends other societies, their show , would 'he the equal of any in the Dominion.-
