Mr ( l anha,m, of the Federation executive, explained the action of the Federation in not- supporting the strike. The meeting generally was of opinion that to prolong the strike would lie useless, lint 110 official steps will be taken in the matter. itl) the exception cf one or two extremists j •the men. it is stated, will end the j. strike by returning to work or applying for work. As the local bodies will not take -buck any strikers men will fird it difficult to secure employment. A special meeting of the Waterworkers' Union was attended by about oOf) men. who discussed the position for nearly three hours. The extremist section urged the immediate cessation of work, and were -supported bv delegates from the General Labourers' Lnion. A vote, however, resulted in a large majority being unfavourable to a strike, the proportion "being two to one. Mr Oanham addressed tH? meeting at length and explained the Federation's attitude towards the Auckln>:d supporters. The explanation was received unfavourably by the majority of the men, who expressed themselves ■dissatisfied at the apparent neglect of the Huntly minors to fight- for themselves, and also in it'- desertion ! of the Auckland labourer*.
