Dr Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals,- was hi Masterton yesterday: Mr Logan, a prominent Canadian dealer in Ho Is tern cattle, is expected to bo present at the Carterton show to-morrow. Mr G. Boagey, of the Masterton post office staff, and who is at present acting as relieving postmaster at Mor- ' tinborough, has been appointed postmaster at Haveloek, in the South Island. Mr Hilton Dixon, well known in football and athletic circles in the Wairarap.i, left Mastertoii this morning for Wanganui, where ho intends to reside. Bro. Fathers, of Wellington, provincial secretary of the 1.0. R., will lie present at tiie annual social to be ilield in the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium, in Masterton to-morrow night.. Mr E. D. Hoben, until recently proprietor and editor of the Mamwatu Times, has bewit appointed to succeed Mr Huie as editor of the Christchurcli Evening News. Mr Edward Page, the new Stipendiary Magistrate, accompanied by Mrs . Page, passed through Masterton ves- . 'terday afternoon for Wellington. Mr Page'wil! spend a short holiday before taking up his Magisterial duties. Mr Alexander Kirkpatrick, who has been in business in Woodville for • the past nine years, died suddenly yesterday morning (savs a Woodville message). He had an apoplectic seizure on Friday morning, and shortly : afterwards became unconscious, audi remained so till he died. Deceased was a very worthy citizen. Ho had been a Borough Councillor for some years, and a member of the Clumber ' of Commerce, School Committee, and / no-liccnse Council. He was a prominent member of the Presbyterian Church, and was an elder. He was only 50 years of age, and leaves •» wi- • dow ar.'ji eight young children to mourn- their loss.'
