MASTERTON RACING CLUB. v SPRING MEETING. > The Spring Meeting of the Masterton Racing Club was held cn the Opaki course yesterday, under pleasant conditions, and proved; one of. the most successful gatherings of the kind ever held in the district. The day was fine, though cloudy, and the course was in excellent order. The attendance was very large, visitors being present from all parts of the district. A largo number of Wellington sports were also present. The racing, taken on the whole, was remarkably good. There were largo fields in nearly every race, and the events were well contested. The " public appeared to have all the best of the day, as the favourites won in nearly every race. The win of Undecided in> the Cup was exceedingly popular, as was also the double win of Mr Bidwill's Imagination. The shortest price of the day was paid by Black Lupin, which won its race in a canter. Deeley was the only jockey to have ft wo winning mounts. The general arrangements were a distinct improvement on previous meetings, though the working of tho totalisator and the delay in the posting of events and jockeys' names did not give -satt.r isfaction. Mr A. J. Hathaway (tho secretary) and the officials worked liard, and were most obliging to the public. The proceedings were enlivened by musical selections by the Masterton Municipal Brass Band. A refreshment booth in charge of Mr J, Dixon appeared to he well pat-' " " ionised. The totalisator takings for ' the day amounted to £9744, as against £5149 for the same meeting of last year.
