THE MEIKLE CASE.

Tt is to be hoped that .the Government will put its foot down firmly upon any further agitation on the part of .J. J. Meikle and his friends. This man has been before the country long enough. If ho suffered an injury by being wrongfully imprisoned, he has, in our opinion, been quite sufficiently compensated by the country. Not long ago an attempt was made to float Moikle. or his grievance, into a sort of joint stock company. We do not know, nor do we care", who is pressing the claims of the man just now. We do know, however, that the country is sick a.nfi tired of tho Meikle business, and the. sooner tho Government realises this and shuts down upon it. the better pleased will be the constituencies.
