THE V.A.T.C. MEETING
CAULFIELD WON BY ROYAL SCOTCH. '
(Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) CAULFIELD, October 13.
'file opening of the Caulfiold meeting was marked by bright sunshine. The weather was, however, on the warm side. A large crowd was attract. Ed to participate in the opening of the Melbourne campaign. There is u<> doubt that the Australian Club suffers through its clashing with the Randwick meeting, which attracts the best of the horses from Victoria and New Zealand for the big weight-for-age stakes. The Caulfiold entries fell this year from 542 to 454, while the Sydney entries increased from 876 to 1030. Several Sydney trainers have missed nominating for Flemington as well as Caulfiold, in consequence of the clashing. Lady Medallist was the only Sydney horse competing in yesterday's ' race?. However, the programme had little or no effect upon the attendance. Both the V.A.T.C. and V.R.C. will find the extra stand accommodation too little to seat the crowds which this year are promised, partly owing to the influx of immigrants. It will be the biggest spring carnival in the history of the States. The Governor-General, together with the State Governor and their suites, were present.
