THE MARCONI AGREEMENT
SERIOUS CHARGES REFUTED. A SELECT COMMITTEE SET UP.' (Received Last LONDON, Octolwr 12. In the House of Commons, a long debate took place on the Marconi agreement. Critics of the agreement contended'that it contained no guarantee of efficiency. Sir Rufus Isaacs emphatically de- I ' iu'ed an outside insinuation, concern- I nig the Government and himself, of j his brother's connection with, either the contract or shares. Mr Herbert Samuel, Postmaster- i General, categorically denied the ra-\ inours that certain members of the J Government had taken advantage of their knowledge of the negotiations which were proceeding to'make heavy profits out of Marconi shares. The House agreed, on Mr Samuel's motion, to appoint a Select Committee to inquire into the agreement. The Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail, and Morning Post express entire con-' fidence in the Government integrity. They declare that Sir Rufus Isaacs nnd Mr Samuel have mot the charges . boldly and explicitly.
