Mr H. M. Campbell, M.P., of Pou"kawa, Hawko's Bay, is slowly recovering from an attack of typhoid fever. The Rev J. Da wson, secretary of | "the N.Z. Alliance, will be a visitor to Masterton to-day. Constable Hefferman, of Napier, and formerly of Masterton, has been transferred to Havelock North. Mr J. W. Card has been elected chairman of the Featherston Town Board for the ensuing two years. Hr T. W. Manifold, a well-known resident of Pahiatua, received news yesterday of the death of his father in Christchurch. Miss Stone, who has been appointed to ftn assistantship in the Masterton District High School, took up her duties on Monday last. Mr E. A. Laery has resigned bis. position as clerk to the Featherston Town Board, and Mr A. 0. Holms, formerly of Masterton, lias been appointed liis successor. The death occurred at Tnvercargil] on Wednesday morning of Mr John Thomson, an old resident of Invercargill, in his 19th year. He arrived in Jnvercargil] in 1862, and was in business as a sawmiller and builder in the early days. Visitors at the Club Hotel, Masterton, include Mr Cracroft Wilson (Christchurch), Mr .Ijohnsoi* (Pahiatua), Mr and Mrs Willis, Messrs Williams, Palmer, Rutherford, Waterworth, Henshelwood, Poole. Ha.vman. Bunny and Way (Wellington). M- Garnet Siin and team (physical culture). A motion of condolence with the family of the late Hon James Marshall. M.L.C.. and appreciation of the valuable services be had rendered the country, was passed bv the House of Representatives yesterday after'imcn, fin the motion of the Prime .Minister. Sir Josenh Ward and Messrs Soddon, Buchanan and McKenzie made feeling reference to the deceased, after which the House adjourned until 7.30 o'clock as a mark of respect. On Wednesday Mrs J. M. Lightfoot, of Carterton, received the sad news of the somewhat sudden death of her father, Mr Wilfred Rennell, which occurred at his home at Wanganui. Ho was 79 years of age, and although he had not been well for some time, the end came unexoectedly. The deceased was formerly well-known in the public service, and was for many years Native Trustee for the West' Coast district.
