i and the peace council. i mastertox county council supports military training. At the meeting of the Mastcrton County Council yesterday, a '.letter was read from tlio X.Z. Peace Council, asking for co-operation in resisting the compulsory clauses of the Defence Act. The chairman said the document was too lengthy to read. Or Foreman : I think it should he merely "received." Cr Murray: I am of opinion that we should pass some resolution on the subject. The chairman: We should approve of the principle of compulsory training and say we do not agree with the Peace Council. Cr Murray: I have pleasure in moving in this direction. Apart*from the question of defence, the military training is.a splendid thing for our young people. Those who would refuse to fit themselves to defend their country, would he very much better out of it. I have pleasure in moving that this Council is in accord witli the principles of the Defence Act, and is not favourable to any movement which would interfere with the administration of the Act. Or Foreman seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously.
