Mastcrton lias been particularly fortunate in. having this fixture for 1912 allotcd to it. When the Association was formed last year, it was decided to hold the annual gathering in different centres each year. The first competition was dcfvicled at Christehurch last year. At the annual meeting Wellington nut in ;, strong claim, but on the voting, the representatives decided on giving the .honour to Mastcrton.

Originally the intention was to •ave'xwo classes, one for the best ■eveloprd man over 10 stone and one 'iv the host developed under 10 stone, last year there was keen oompcti;ion in both classes. Masterton was by four competitors, but ■M not succeed in scoring either first ->;• second, although one competitor f-Vaimtl ia third place. M.P.. offered a challenge shield to the Asfor competition by teams of f, mr i,ovs attending the primary vhools of the Dominion. Jarrett, 'lion secretary, who has been for many vean: advocating for physical culture in public schools, has sot ir.to touch with each of the education l-oards of the "Dominion, distributed circulars broadcast t-hvoushont _ the principal schools under the. _jnrisdie-t»-n of the boards, and obtained the promise of the Minister of Railways to take a personal interest in . the amending of the Act, upon the arrival of the new General Manager of Hallways, so as to enable the Department to issue free passes to competitors from public schools.
