Mrs \ and Miss Gow, well-known Waipukurau residents, are at present •on a visit to Mastorton. Rev Mother Aloysius, foundress of •convents at Gunnedah, Moree. Narrabri, and Inverell. New South Wales, •died at St. Joseph's Convent, Gunnedah, last week. Mr Lawford, manager of the Dannevirke branch of the Union Bank •of Australia, contemplates leaving Dannevirke on a holiday trip to the 'Old Country in February next. The death occurred 'at Shannon on "Wednesday of Mrs W. H. Foot, a former resident of Ekotahuna, at the age of thirty years. She leaves a husband and seven young children. Mr Sheltou, who has been in London for some months (his .second visit), returned to Wellington by the Arawa yesterday. He has been representing the interests of New Zea- ' land producers in connection with the •discharging, handling, and marketing of frozen meat. A London correspondent writes : | ""Lord Liverpool, Governor-Designate of New Zealand, is expected to arrive in the Dominion by December 20th. The statement is made that Auckland will be his home for some months after his arrival. Rev P. B. Fraser, M.A., has been "nominated for the Moderatorship of the P/resbyteriam General Alssombly by the Wanganui Presbytery. At a meeting of the Hawke's Bay Presbytery it was decided to nominate the Rev A, Grant, of Dannevirke, for tho position of Moderator. Another of Inglewood's earliest settlors has been called "across the bar" in the person of Mrs Tilly, relict of the late Mr Tilly, who, after a long and painful illness (states tho Record) passed away on Friday last, Mr and Mrs Tilly were amongst Inglewood's very early settlers. Mr W. Williams, of Masterton, who is leaving to take up a position in Hastings, was on Wednesday evenring farewelled by the members of the Excelsior Hockey Club. A most enjoyable evening was spent, a number of those present contributing songs and recitations. During the evening Mr A. Pragnell. on behalf of 'hockey players and friends, presented Mr Williams with a handsome travelling bag, and referred to the many sterling qualities of the recipient. "Mr Williams suitably responded. A Gisborne telegram states that a rery old resident of Poverty Bay, Mr William Matthew Kirk, died yesterday afternoon after a long and painful illness. Mr Kirk fought throughout the Maori wars, taking part in engagements at Whakatane, and in the Waikato, and later was a member of the force which opposed tho Hau Haus in Poverty Bay. The deceased was a widely respected man, and for tho past 25 years kept a .general store at To Arai. He leayes a wido»» five sons and two daughters.
