KAIPARORO. Tho weather •still continues very uncertain, and the rainfall throughout the week Jias been exceptionally heavy. On Sunday a cold snap sot in, and snow lay for some time to the foot of the hush hills. Mr J. P. Hansen had a very narrow escape from serious, injury last Thmsday. While driving to Eketahuua, accompanied hy his wife and two daughters, the horse shied when approaching a dead horse lying near the side of the road, with the result that the vehicle was backed down a steep 'ncline. Mrs Hansen and her younger daughter managed, to jmnpelear of the vehicle, but the remaining two occupants were precipitated down the embankment." Mi- Hansen was badly bruised, and both ho and his daughter received a severe shaking. The h<;r-t> <\<-eaoed injury, but the conveyance was damaged considerably. A rather severe form of cold is nt present prevalent throughout the Jistrict. Owing io swelling and soreness of the throat, it has, in several cases, at first been mistaken for mumps, and some of the most severe, cases have required medical attention. On Monday night a concert organised by the Rev Moßain. of Eke kahuna, was given in the local hall. Tho items were surmliod by the Ekctahuna Methodist Choir, and the proceeds are to be devoted to church jiurnosos. There was a fairly largo audience, and the varied programme presented elicited well-merited applause. The final of the series of winter dances is to ; take nlace in the ball tonight, when it is anticipated that there will be a, large essembly.
