Magson, of Masterton, has received an appointment with Andersons, Ltd., of Christchurch. On Saturday last Mr Magson was presented by the firm of Donald and Sons, with which ho hai been associated for two and a half years, wit.li a case of pipes. Mr J. G. Davis, an old resident of Christchurch, died at his residence in Richmond, on Monday morning. Mr Davis was a prominent member of tho Canterbury Horticultural Society, and was the proprietor of i largo nursery business. A Wellington telegram states that Messrs Harrison and Tanner, of the staff of the Inspector of Post Offices, have won the Gray Memorial prize , for 1911, offered by the Post and "Telegraph Department for the best suggestion adopted by the Department. The prize, which is shared equally, was awarded for an improved arrangement of tables in the Post and Telegraph Guide. A pleasant function took place in the Mastorton Methodist schoolroom last evening, when the members of the Christian Endeavour Society met together to say farewell to Mr T. S. Goldsmith, who has been one of tho most prominent members of the Society for some time past. The secretary, in a neat speech, presented tho departing member with two handsome volumes of Whittier's and Lowell's poems, as a mark of the esteem in which b* had been held 'by the members. The secretary said that they all regretted very much to lose Mr Goldsmith, and his departure would a severe loss to t)io Society. Still, their loss would perhaps be another society's g-iin. The Rev S. J. Serpen also snoko in eulogistic terms of Mr *nd said that he was a very willing 'Christian worker. Mr Goldsmith 'suitably responded. Refreshments • wore provided by the young ladies, and a pleasant evening was spent.
