The dispute between the borough '■' engineer and the council over drain'sge and other matters, which Las been •proceeding some time, reached finality on Friday ovoning. The engineer "(Mr W. J. O'Donuell) submit- ■ fcedt a report, in which he contended ho was not wholly to blame. He '-considered that he was relieved of the responsibility for defective'"work h\ >the sewerage extension by the action of the council in appointing a ganger, whom, he contended, had full charge of the work. The council decided to ■ dispense with the services of the engineer, and to give him two months' salary on', condition that he brought the work in hand up to date "before {leafing.
