Rumour hath it that tlw.ro is to be tho keenest battle ever fought lor tho Romnoy 'Marfih championship as the first round is to bo taken for the Wheeler Memorial perpetual challenge shield and the Short hundred guinea challenge cup which has been twice won by Mr W. Perry, of Masterton, is also to bo competed for. A beautiful solid silver challenge cup from the English. Hereford Hard Book Society has just come to Ivand and will prove a great draw. An exceedingly large display in draught Jiorscs is looked for and n. great accession of strength in the ring events is proniKed by northern sportsmen. A thorough overhauling of the kennel club's schedule has attracted attention in many quarters where no interest has hitherto been displayed and a big increase in entries is anticipated.
