DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOLS.
Tlie Minister of Education, in reply to a Wanganui deputation on Thursday, stated that ho had been advised tliat he had no power to disestablish District High Schools, and that legislation was necessary beforo this was done. If the statement of the Minister be correct, then the disestablishment of the Palme-rston North, Dannevirke and other District High Schools has not been in accordance with law. Probably, however, the Minister meant that he could not ltegally ' disestablish District High Schools in favour of Agricultural High Schools. It is satisfactory to note that he indicated that legislation may be introduced this session. Tho Masterton Agricultural High School Establishment Committee might assist in this msitter if it were to communicate with Education Boards, asking them to make representations similar to that made by the Wellington Education Board. It could even bring additional pressure to bear through the local bodies of this district.
