Sporting men generally will be pleased to note that the .popular Oiaki Maoris meeting showed a substantial increase in the returns for their Spring Meeting. Strat-li-moira's dual win at Otaki was slightly overdue. Me MeManaway's gelding had not been on the winning 'list for some time. Tho Clarorille train,ed Borsil showed a kit, of pace in tho Maiden at Otaki, and may get on tho winning list beforo long. The tracks at Opaki are now in 'splendid condition, thanks to the pains taken by Caretaker MeCouk'w who does everything in liis power to have the going in tip-top order. Yesterday morning at Opaki Killaloo, Gay Lass and Operation went five furlongs in company. The fn-imv giving way a lot of weight had the , best of tho go, whk-h was do.no> > > fair time. Otter showed a lot of pace i" tb-j first four furlongs, but stopped badly at the finish.
Sir Ivtiox, looking big and bright, galloped seven furlongs in resolute style. The Sir Laddo colt is very well at present. The attention of owners and trainers is drawn to the fact that the 'nomination for all events at the Mastertoil 'Racing Club's Spring Meeting, excepting the Trial Plate, close this evening with the secretary, Mr A. Hathaway.

Naumai was well backed at Avondale on Wednesday, but ho failed to show bia'customary dash. Mr F. Hall, tho Gisborne sportsman, had a good innings on the first dn.v of the Avondale meeting, winning the three chief events on the programme.
