SALVATION ARMY

SEL i-DEXIAL FUND. The self-denial effort of the local Salvation Army corps ha;; now been lamelicd, authorison collectors will, during the next four or five weel;?;, solicit subscriptions t~> the selfdenial fluids from t-ho public of Mastertoi'. r.'nl s'.irronndinr; district. The proceeds of the yearly seli'-do-«ial appeal:-; constitutes the main revenue that enables the Army to continue snecossfun.v it? noble work of savinr; and rescuing the unfortunate and fallen from year to year. The success ot tho Army in the past, and the satisfactory results obtained, constitutes its bona fide in tho public esiniaiicn. This year a groat change has been made; New Zealand as far a rSalvation Army administration goes has been separated from Australian oversight, and has become a separate command with its national headquarters in Wellington, and Commissioner Richards lias been appointed ctiicer in charge of the Army as a whole in this Dominion. The proceeds o fthe present appeal will be spent mainly within New Zealand, and Commi.ssioner Richards has already deckled on considerable expenditure in connection with children's homes, prison gate work, and other branches of social ' operation. In view of this fact the response to this year's self-denial appeal should be a liberal one, and we wish the effort every success.
