MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
ORDINARY MEETING.
Tlio ordinary meeting of the Mas-ter-ton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening, there being present—Hi's Worship the Mayor (Mr ,]'. M. Coradine), and Crs H. J. O'Leary, F. W. Temple, J. Canriv. W. Prasrnell, J. C. Ewington, J. Prentice, A. Donald and E. Flanagan. On the minutes of last meeting being read, Qr O'Leary took exception to the fact that a committee had been set up, without any notice that the matter was coming on, being given tc him. On it being explained that the matter was advertised Mr O'Leary withdrew his objection.
Mr O'Leary withdrew his objection.. The Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society wrote asking that the second day of the annual show be kept as a holiday from "11 o'clock. It was decided that the matter be referred to the Holiday Committee. The Masterton Agricultural High School Establishment Committee wrote asking the Council to support the proposal to erect" '&. High School and to support the following' "That this Council views with favour the proposal to "establish Agricultural Education in Masterton, and will favourably consider the question of a grant to the Agricultural side of the Masterton High .'School if same ha established." 1 The Mayor said that the Council favoured the proposal to establish' an Agricultural High School, but he did not think that the Council could mako a grant- substantial enough to he of use to the project. Councillor Eivington considered thai the Council should favour the resolution as a whole, as the question o»-' Agricultural Education was of the -greatest""importance to the community. He did not think that a grant would be wanted immediately, and should give the project eveny support.
Cr Prentice seconded the motion, and endorsed the remarks, of Cr Ewington. Cr. O'Leary favoured the pronosal to erect an Agricultural High School, but he would do so only on the condition that no extra rating was entailed. '
Cr Temple said that he would like to know more clearly what the position was in regard to the establishment n f an Agricultural Hio-h School. He thought the Coune-'l should wait fw a time, till the position became more definite.
