| TWELFTH ANNUAL REPORT. j The following is the twelfth annu;;i report of tho Masterton Chamber of Commerce to bo presented ax riu> annual meeting on Friday next: — In presenting the twelfth" annual report of tho j-J aster ton • -Chamber of Commerce, the Counoii have pleasure in recording another pso.spo-rous year in the town and district. Despite the fact that there has been a stringency in the money market and a hardening of interest rates by finiwie:::!

! institutions, there has been ample money available for sound investments, and there is evidence that, the town and district are thoroughly sound and prosperous. Matters of considerable interest have been before the Chaml>or during the past year, and it is pleasing to note that many of the Chamber's recommendations have been approved and adopted by the different bodies interested.

Solway Railway Station.- —A deputation from the Masterton A. and P. Association and this Chamber wore successful in getting the name of ti!' Purakau Station altered to "Solway" which has mot with the approval of the wholo district.

Masterton Fish. Hatcheries. —If, war: proposed to remove the Masterton I* ish Hatcheries to district. The matter was brought before tho Chamber by Mi* I). McGregor, sonr., and a committee from this Chamber was appointed to go into tho matter of submitting sites which, might be secured. Several were inspected and finally the Acclimatisation Society decided on a section belonging to the Trust Lands Trust situated in Pownall Street, which is admirably jsuitcd for the purpose. Agricultural School for tho W airarapa. —A resolution whs passed approving of tho scheme adopted by t'h* "Wellington Eduoation Board. Considerable interest has been aroused in regard to this matter, and a committoo of citizens has been .formed to endeavour to establish an Agricultural High School for the district. Through Railway Booking.—Ti;'.s matter is being considered by the authorities and will no doubt becomo'a" [established fact at,an early date.

Telephone Service.—Tho matter of imprsjienien^.i3 the. k-lc-phone sorylev \VAS advocated during the year and h is pleasing to no to that thereJs every prospect of an automatic service belli}; installed, .which will be a groat improvement 011 tho proront system. Train Seivicos. —Owing to the persistent. advocacy of the. Chamber it is gratifying to report, that" the delimitation which waited on the Hon the Minister for Railways was successful in having practically all their requests acceded to, and the district- has m>v> a railway service which reasonably meets its requirements. An effort is being m-a-do to get the imprests to stop si Kopuaranga when r( quired, a* tiii.i will be of great convenience to settlers. The thanks of the Chamber are due to the Wellington Chamber for assisting in, bringing the matter before the Hon the Minister.

Masterton-Waipukui au Railway.—This movement is meeting with the hearty support of the settlers along the proposed route. Meetings have been held and a League formed. A deputation has waited on the Hon tho Minister for Public Works, who has promised to visit the district during the recess.

Congress of Chambers of Commerce of tho British. Empire..—This Chamber was represented by Mr T. G. Mason, an ex-president, to whom the thanks of .the Chamber are due for a very interesting report of the proceedings.

Resignation!— Owing to removal from the district-Mr R. W\ Robson resigned his position as a member of the Council. A heartv vote of thanks was passed to Mr Robson for his services. Mr T). M. Graham was elected to fill tli''' vi'cnwv. ALEX. PENDER SON. President. •
