Mr J. B. McKenzie, Masterton, lias been elected president of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society, and Mr A„ J. Welch has been elected a director.
The marriage took place at Tauranga recently of Mr A. A. Reese, formerly of Pahiatua, to Miss Elsie V. Davoren of'that town. *
The death has occurred at Nelson, at the age of eighty, years, of q very old identity in the .person of Mrs Laxford, mother of the Rev J. A. Luxford, of Wanganui.
The funeral o fthe late Mr James Pryor, of Masterton, took place yesterday morning, when notwithstanding the roughness of the elements, a very large concourse of people followed the hearse. The pall bearers were— Messrs H. M. Boddington (representing the Horticultural Society), R. J. Young (Competitions Society). W. Dickson (Amateur Athletic Club), A'. McLeod (Wairarapa Caledonian Society). A. D. \Gillies (Swimming , Club), and "A. C. PYagnell (Wairarapa Hockey Association). The burial service> was conducted by the Rev A. T. Thompson.

The death occurred in Feather,stoit yesterday afternoon of Mrs Card, seiir.. relict of the lato Mr John Card. The deceased lady had been ailing for only a short while. For many yearsshe resided on the West Coast of tho South Island, and was an intimatefriend of the Seddon family. After leaving the Coast, the late Mr «jml Sirs Card kept the Star and Garter in Wellington for three years. They then came to the Wairarapa. and purrchased the Empire Hotel at Featherston, which they successfully conducted for a number of years. Mr John Card died a year or two bade,- and Mrs Card and her family have lived in retirement ever since. The deceased lady leaves a family of three sons and two daughters. One of the sons in Mr -T. W. Card, the well-knoim solicitor of Featherston. The late Mrs Card had many friends in Mastcrton, and was highly esteemed by all who knew her.
