THE LATE MR PRYO

AN APPRECIATION. (Contributed.) The details given in the Press of the connection of the lato Mr James Pryor with local movements hardly convey an adequate idea of the miny publis service rendered by the deceased gentleman. I have been acquainted with him for many years, and can speak with authority of the excellent work he has done in this and other communities. His was a nature which cornpellod liini to be active. He was always anxious to be of service to others. Oftentimes luvvo I known him get up at break of day to assist in some undertaking which was for the good of the town. Then he would perform Ins daily duties, return home, swallow a hito and ho off to do some other service to the community. His enthusiasm knew no bounds. Such a word as "defeat" was uofc in his. vocabulary. How he has delighta'l in lifting an institution from the brink of failure to the pinnacle of success! How did he sacrifice his time and energy on behalf of the Athletic Club, the Horticultural Society, the Swimming Club, the Hockey Associa tion, the Y.M.C.A., the Competitions Society, and hosts of other institutions! How much he has done for Masterton alone nobody will evei know. And withal he was most devoted to his fi-mily. He loved his home. He worshipped his children He revelled in gardening and poultry pursuits. He was, in fact, every inch of him a man. It may in truth be •said of him that Masterton may never look upon his like again.
