MANAWATU AND WEST COAST A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

METROPOLITAN SHOW AT PALMERSTON. The Twenty-seventh Annual Metropolitan Show ot tlio Manawatu A. and P. Association is fixed for 30th and 31st October, and Ist November next and from tho Prize Schedule to hand this important fixture is to be a notable advance on previous Shows. Last year's event was such a pronounced success that the committee decided strongly in favour of a "forward movement," in fact tho increasing popularity has compelled it, and vigorous strides havo been made. To this year's programme, in the Ring events has bficn added a "Qualified Hunter's Competition" and new classes for Best lady rider, astride and side saddle. Mr E. Denis o'R.orko, the ay inner of tho big jumping contest last year, has generously offered to replace the Challenge Cup taken by him. Our space is too limited to review the whole of the schedule, but a glance shows that there are many alterations and numerous new classes. The whole of the Dog, Art Needlework and Home industries divisions have been re-model-led and greatly improved. The book is bristling with trophies and special prizes, and moreover, contains much valuable information to exhibitors in a concentrated form. We might mention that the special fast show stock train from Auckland promised by the Minister of Railways as an initial experiment in a movement inaugurated to bring the Northern and Southern A. and P. Divisions of this island into closer communion is duly scheduled, and we hope the Nortliern exhibitors will do all in their power to make the scheme successful.

The prize money is on the usual generous scale and new cups, trophies and medals to be competed for total over £SOO in value. Our representative informs us that Romney, Southdown and Lincoln sheep, Hereford, Jersey, Holstein and Ayshire cattle, and Draught Horse classes are going to be unusually strong and it goes without saying that the jumping will be keenly contested. With the Northern "Sports" joining in, the big show should be something worth while looking at and there is no doubt it will. Our roaders who are interested .ha-c! better look ahead as Palmerston North is a full town at show time.
