A HOSPITAL MATTER
'•'IMARU, Last Night. In view of the fact that the resignation of Dr "Ussher, ResiHent Surgeon at the Hospital, has been presented and accepted, as lie intends to enter into practice in Timaru, a deputation from the -honorary "medical staff requested the Board to alter the system, and instead of appointing a fully qualified man, to appoint students .fresh from Dunedin, each for one year, as House Surgeon, as is said to bo done at the larger centres,'and at the majority of the hospitals at Homo. It way unfair to bring in every few years a qualified man to become a competitor in private practice. It was mentioned that nearly ,all the doctors in Timaru had thus passed through the hospital. Tt. was argued that the system proposed would ho cheaper, and the work more satisfactory. After discussion the Board resolved to adhere to the present system.
A discussion took place on drawing the lino in admitting patients who might ho ablo to pay for private treatment. Assurince was given that no line would h edrawn. Anyone w'ould he admitted, hut ifaTilo to par the stated fhargo they would he required to do so.
