Tlio play-oil' lor the championship, between the winners of the two sections— Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa—took place on Lancaster Park to-day, in the presence of a large crowd of spectators.. Hawko's Ba-{ woni :s the toss, and played with the s um and wind. From the bully oh", Wairarapa set up an attack, but a free hit to Hawko's Bay relieved. The ball was sent out to Harrison, who centred, but the shot at goal went outside. From a throw-in near tho Wairarapa 25, tho latter got the bull and brought it well up the field ; hut it was returned chiefly by reason of a good rush on the part of the forwards, in which Maddison figured prominently. Wairarapa got on a lino passing run. Z. Humphreys brought the ball along her side of tho line, and centred, hu tHawke's Bay cleared and gave a corner. Wairarapa .continued to attack, but a hot shot from the circle wont over tho 25, and a bully resulted. 0. Humphreys hitthe ball back, but Wairarapa rushed again the Hawko's Bay goalkeeper saving. Hawke's Bay conceded another corner and a wild scramble in the circle followed, Hawko's Bay getting relief by a free hit for I obstruction. Wairarapa got going I again and It. Humphreys brought the ball along, and passed it in. The forwards got it, but sent it down too hard and it overran. Hawke's Bay then attacked and good passing from the left to the right wing resulted in a centre. Crawley shot, but missed, and Wairarapa gave a corner. Wairarapa, however, worked the ball back, and some good midfield play followed. Hawke's Bay again attacked and 0. Pitt shot, but the ball went outside. From the weny-five mully Z. Humphreys brought the ball along the side line, but failed to centre. Obstruction gave Wairarapa a free hit, and Hawke's Bay got the ball away, V. Pitt coming along with a very fine run, beating all but tho goalkeeper. Wairarapa had to concede a corner, but they made a good recovery, the left forward wingers getting off somo fine runs. Hawke's Bay backs, however, were very safe, and the rushes by- the opposite side were checked. Wairarapa forwards came down with a great run, and reached the circle, but Swain relieved by a fine shot down I the line. Hawke's Bay continued to | press, but R. Humphreys cleared | splendidly. Wairarapa forwards got ! going with a fast run, which was stop- | ped. The ball was returned to the blues' end, where a corner was given. [ Wairarapa tried hard to break away, but were kept back. Ha-wke's . Bay pressed hard, but the blues at length broke out, Neilson reaching the 25 by a fine run in. From the throw in Neilson reached the circle, but was not properly backed up, and the Hawke's Bay goalkeeper cleared. Half time was,called with no score registered. On resuming Hewson intercepted a pass and sent out to Neilson, but the ball went out. Hawke's Bay charged but Jt. Humphreys stopped the rush. Hawke's Bay continued to attack, and Pitt passed to Harrison but tho ball went outside. Hawke's Bay had a chance to shoot, but Feist relieved. From the throw-in the ball went to J. Burden, who returned it with a fine long drive. Wairarapa got going, but were gradually driven back to their circle, where Hawke's Bay pressed hard, but Biggins and Terry cleared, and danger for the time he- ■ ing was averted. Hawke's Bay renew- : cd the attack, and bre'ee into the circle again, but It. Humphreys saved. < Some splendid passing play between Neilson and Hewson brought play right up to the Hawke's Bay circle. Hawke's Bay then attacked strongly, but Sage relieved by finding the line. Hawke's Bay at length nearly got in, Madtlison getting off a shot, which went outside. From the twenty-five bully Wairarapa got the ball, and invaded the Hawke's Bay circle, where two shots at goal were well saved by G. Morrison. Hawke's Bay broke away, and Crawley and Pitt brought the'ball'-to Wairarapa's twenty-live. A strong attack was saved by Feist finding the line. Neilson and Hewson instituted another rush for Wairarapa, the latter reaching the circle, but . the goalkeeper cleared. After some midfield play Wairarapa were given two free hits for off side play. Hawke's Bay then reached the circle and attacked furiously, but the goalkeeper saved well, and Wairarapa gave a corner. Neilson and Hewson again got going with a splendid run, but J. Burden saved. Maddison passed to Harrison who missed. Hawke's Bay when at the blues' twenty-five got a j free hit for obstruction, but Wairarapa broke away, Burden stopping the rush. Another attack by Waira- j rapa was broken up by Crawley, j Neilson got the ball away with a fine run, beating all the backs and shot, but the ball went wide. From the 25 bullv V. Pitt and Thompson got the ball' and brought it down to Wairarapa's twenty-five, where Feist relieved by a splendid long shot. Play was in Wairarapa's territory when time called, without any score being recorded. Each team will keep the Cup totsix months. INTER-ISLAND MATCH.

OHRISTCHURGH, Last Night. The first inter-Island . match was plavecl to-day by lady hoekcyists and ended in a win for the South Island l)v three goals to two. Miss M. Poarce (Canterbury)' shot two goals a nd Miss Aiken (Otago) one for the winners. Miss Perrett (Wanganui), who was the best forward on her side, scored twice for the North. It was a fast and exciting game.
