(JBy leieeraDQ—Pr«£ S Association.)
WELLINGTON; Last Night. The Now Zealand Golf Qhnuipionship meeting opened to-day 0:1 the Heretaunga links. The weather was dull, with light showers and a boisterous northonv wind, which prev.-itted any sensational Tho greens were rather dead, owing"to the rain on Saturday and on Sunday evening. Competitors were present from all parts of the Dominion, practically all the front rank players taking part. Mr Arthur Duncan, the present open and amateur champion, was not in the irresistible form he showed at Wanganui last year. Mr B. B. Wood, from Christchurch, played with deadly accuracy, and was the favourite. Mr H. B. Lusk, from Christchurch. did not seem so consistent as of yore. Burns and others represented Auckland, and amongst the Hawke's Bay representatives were Kurepo and Kapi Tareha. Tho Taranaki, Manawatu and Wairarapa districts were all well represented. The sensation of the day was the collapse of the champion in the second round. Following were tho scored.
