H.M S. PINAFORE

Another crowded house greeted the Masterton Amateur Theatrical Society in their second -night's presentation of Mr W, S. Gilbert'b opera "H.M.S. Pinafore," in the Town | Hall, Masterton, last evening. The j audience wa& a most enthusiastic and | appreciative one; and judging by the [ frequent outbursts of applause tliey thoroughly enjoyed every minute of ; the evening's entertainment. It was generally -admitted that the presentation was much superior to that of the previous evening, member? parts with greater ease and more confidence, and the few minor defects noticeable in the first production were entirel yabsent. The choruses went I with A. swing, the dancing was clever and the whole of the principals car- ' 1 ried out their respective parts to perfection. Too much praise cannot be bestowed on the Orchestra for the effetive manner in which they contributed to the enjoyment of the production. The Society has every reagon. to feel proud of the result of its season in Masterton, and the mus-ic-loving public will look forward with teen appreciation to ike next production by the members of the Society. A PLEASANT I At tho conclusion, of the "H.M.S. Pinafore" production in the Town Hall, Mn-sterton, last evening, membejfi of the Theatrical Society gathered together when two presentation* of 1 a pleasing nature were made. Mrs Francis, on behalf of those present, handed Miss Roberts, dancing instructress, a beautifully finished goid brooch, set with pearls and amythist, and Mrs A. Daniell, presented Mr Harry Hall, stage manager, with a beautifully designed gold sovereign case and tobacco pouch, both presentations being suitably inscribed. Eulogistic reference was made to tho sterling assistance rendered by the recipient, who suitably acknowledged the gifts. Three hearty cheers were also given for the conductor, Mr R.-J. Young, and that gentleman in a neat speech thanked the members for the wTnole-heaxtod and enthusiastic support the members, principals, and particularly the orchestra, had given him throughout tho production of the piece.
