The criminal sessions opened to-day beforo Ji:dgo Denniston, wlio congratulated the district on the comparative absence of crime, there being only, two criminal cases, neither of which presented any difficulty. ;The grand jury found true bills against George Tikoeti, for carnal knowledge; and John Watson for assault and causing 'grievous bodily harm. Both accused wero found not guilty. Walter Hat-greaves (aged 17), re'•iianded for sentence from Murclr.ston on two charges of forgery was admitted "bo probation on the first charge, and ordered to comoup for •sentence when called upon in the second case.
