THE EGMONT SEAT.
The contest for the Egmont scat rendered vacant by tho appointment of tho Hon. T. Mackenzie to the High Cominissionership, is being strenuously fought. Notwithstanding the big odds that are against integrated party to support, tho him, by reason of his having a disOpposition candidate (Mr Astbury) is making a determined fight. Ho has an advantage over his opponent in that lie is a practical farmer seeking to represent a farming constituency. Unhappily, however, the interests of farmers aro not particularly well nutured by those who are in Opposition to-day. When the' contest is over,"it will probably bo Found that Mr Wilkinson has won by a substantial majority. The whole of tho West Coast will then bo a compact Government phalanx.
