DOMESTIC SERVANTS.
The New Zealand High. Commissioner's Office •is-„takihg active steps du-ee domestic servants to emigrate to the Dominion. An artistic placard, designed by Mr A. T.'Pearse, the well-known artist, bears the legend "New Zealand Wants Domestic Servants. Happy Homos. Good Wages, Fares from London and Liverpool £2 165." N This is very nice in it's way. But we should ?ilce to knov just how many of the hundreds of domestics who hare been imported during the last year or two are at present in service. We have heard that a batch of servants were brought out some months ago by a number of Hawke's Bay residents, and that of these not five per cent are in service to-day.' Tho Government (will require. to. tike-stops to ensure something like povronnonco of occupation if if" intends expending large sums on immigration.
